International cooperation

A number of international cooperation projects highlights:

  • Projects UNESCO / MAB Brees (2011-2017): “Using the Biosphere Reserve for Economic Security and the Environment”;
  • Projects UNESCO / MAB NTFP (2009-2012): “The custom of using natural resources sustainably in the Biosphere Reserve and World Heritage Sites in Vietnam”.
  • Project SIDA / MCD (2011-2013): “Improving the resistance and resilience to climate change in advance of the Coastal and Marine Biosphere Reserve in Vietnam through enhanced natural resource management and development sustainable community livelihoods. “
  • PES projects / CDM with Power Company Munster (Germany): Payments for environmental services of forests and carbon sequestration in Cat Ba National Park.
  • Collaborative project with the University of Turku (Finland); University of Queensland (Australia), Adelaide University (Australia), Malik Institute (Switzerland).
  • Cooperation and exchanges with the Biosphere Reserve: Jeju (South Korea); Palawan (Philippines); Noosa (Australia)
  • Signed cooperation agreement with Fountainebleau Biosphere Reserve (Avon, France) and Biosphere Reserve Dadohae Shinan (Jeollanamdo Province, Korea)

2017, implementing the direction of the city, attending the UNESCO Network of Island and Coastal Biosphere Reserves (WNICBRs) in Jeju, the Cyber Environment Network of the World Local Government (ENCYNET) hosted by the Jeju Province.

The program supports the Cat Ba Biosphere Reserve

– Management objective:

– Mobilizing the resources of the state and society to help improve people’s income, contributing to limit fishing, natural resources pressure, which focus and priority subjects, poor households in the communes, hotspots exploitation of forest resources;

– Help communities mitigate and adapt to climate change through green development model, quality economy, minimize the consequences of natural disasters;

– Promoting the meaning of the designation of world Biosphere Reserve in promoting and increasing the value of local specialty products.

– Contents for building mechanisms and policies to support management:

Building institutional policy for the development of eco-tourism, sustainable management of natural resources for Cat Ba Island BR, quickly join the network of BRs in Southeast Asia, Northeast Asia and the world. Policies to support the implementation of the migration to the communities living in the core zone and buffer zone of Biosphere Reserve, such as immigration policy, compensation for moving to a new location, core zone settlements relocation policy, vocational training support transfer … etc.

Develop policies to support implementation of the restructuring of industries to ensure the economic life of the society of the communities living in Biosphere Reserve on the basis of sustainable economic development and encourage development the type of professional environmentally friendly economic development.

Building policies for shifting economic structure as per industries, structural regions, labor structure, investment structure to ensure requirements of sustainable development, in ine with laws and regulations and consistent with UNESCO declaration on the conservation of traditional values; Policy support in the management of the environment, prevention of pollution and disease.

The investment in infrastructure engineering (roads, bridges, services facilities, arranging residential areas…) in accordance with the overall planning of socio-economic development and harmonization with the natural landscape of the biosphere reserve. These projects must haave environmental impact assessment (EIA). Guidelines for construction and development of infrastructure, culture, information, communication, preservation of traditional culture.

Policies to support construction of the model of economic development in aquaculture fisheries and resource protection; model in agriculture towards environmentally friendly; building models and developing product brands of the biosphere; quality economy development program..

Tourism, visiting the Biosphere Reserve, Cat Ba National Park is organized in coordination with local authorities, under the guidance of the department of tourism and organizations concerned.

– Some key findings:

After being recognized as a Biosphere Reserve in the world, the attention and support from the state and international organizations, countries in the field of community development, increase incomes and people’s livlihoods in the buffer zone and transition zones of the biosphere reserve has been sustained and significantly improved.
